Our Opportunity:

Charles Schwab Investment Management (CSIM) Technology is part of the Schwab Technology Services (STS) organization which is responsible for the company’s use of information technology including all telecommunications, operations and client and business applications.

CSIM Technology is aligned to support the technology needs of Charles Schwab Investment Management Inc. (CSIM) which is the investment advisor for Schwab’s proprietary mutual funds, referred to as the Schwab Funds; and it includes Schwab’s exchange-traded funds, referred to as the Schwab ETFs™. With over $300bn in assets under management, CSIM is the 3rd largest provider of index mutual funds and the 5th largest provider of EFTs.

This Sr. Scrum Master position within CSIM Technology reports to the Managing Director and will play a key role in developing technology solutions sponsored by the Chief Operating Officer.

What you’ll do:

The Scrum Master is responsible for ensuring Scrum is understood and enacted. Scrum Masters will ensure that the Scrum Team adheres to Scrum theory, practices, and rules. Scrum Master will ensure that Scrum implementation is aligned with Schwab Agile Program teachings which are based directly on The Scrum Guide. The Scrum Master will be a servant-leader for the Scrum Team. The Scrum Master will help those outside the Scrum Team understand which of their interactions with the Scrum Team are helpful and which aren’t. The Scrum Master will help everyone change these interactions to maximize the value created by the Scrum Team.

The Scrum Master will interface with client personnel and use oral and written communications skills to develop great working relationships with stakeholders and other team outsiders at various levels of the local organization and Schwab at large. The Scrum Master will lead a Scrum Team to perform planning, development and testing on a large software development, implementation and integration project. The Scrum Master will facilitate, as needed, all Scrum related activities including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Retrospective, Sprint Review and refinement activities.

The Scrum Master will actively interface with Product Owners to facilitate effective Product Backlog management and Sprint activities. The Scrum Master will remove obstacles on behalf of the Development Team and manage risks to enable team efficiency and effectiveness and the delivery of high-quality software.

Must have experience managing software development projects, preferably managing or performing software development using an Agile Scrum approach. Professional Scrum Master (PSM), Certified Scrum Practitioner (CSP) or Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification preferred.

Ability to apply Scrum estimation techniques to software development efforts, strong leadership and organizational skills with excellent communication (written and verbal), time management, project planning, people and team building skills.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A university degree from a well-respected academic institution; advanced degrees in Information management, Computer Science, Business Administration and/or other professional certifications are a plus

  • Professional Scrum Master (PSM), Certified Scrum Practitioner (CSP) or Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification

  • At least 7 years’ experience working in the software development lifecycle with a strong knowledge of the investment process lifecycle

  • Proven record of delivering technology solutions within agreed upon budgets and timeframes

  • Substantiated experience raising the bar on staff delivery performance and cultivating high performance work environments

  • Significant experience transforming teams through technology, organization, culture, process and business change management
