Our Opportunity:

The Director of Technology Strategy is responsible for delivering thoughtful, insightful contributions to high-priority strategic projects primarily for Schwab’s CIO and CTO organizations.

What you’ll do:

The Director of Technology Strategy works in a team setting, reporting to the Vice President and working with multiple constituents across Schwab’s business units. Projects are broad in scope and require creativity, flexibility, analytical abilities, structured thinking, and strong project management and leadership skills. The successful candidate will be adaptable to a range of challenging projects and have a strong interest in technology, innovation and financial services. They will be self-motivated, results oriented and able to independently lead major strategic initiatives, working up and down the organization from the CEO to junior staff.

The Director will have responsibility for significant elements of project work, including:

  • Leading strategic project definition, idea generation, and insight development

  • Managing engagements with external consultants

  • Planning and executing multiple projects concurrently across multiple stakeholder groups

  • Structuring analysis of technology, market and industry trends that will impact our business and in turn our technology organization

  • Ensuring high-quality analysis and presentation materials for senior management, stakeholders, and domain specialists

  • Developing strategic insights that will drive sustained growth in our business

Representative project work includes enabling the digital client experience, application modernization, security as a feature, blockchain opportunities within operations, partner and vendor analysis and selection, data center strategy, driving efficiencies within technology, new product development, strategic planning, etc.

What you have:

  • MBA and/or post-grad education required

  • 8-10 years of work experience in consulting, investment banking, corporate development, and/or internal / technology strategy and innovation

  • Experience designing processes, framing problems, analyzing solutions, building models, making decks, facilitating meetings, presenting to large and small audiences

  • Prior experience in financial services including experience with financial markets, products, technology and/or the fee-based investment advisory market preferred, but not required

  • An appropriate balance of objective, analytical orientation with a desire to move things to conclusion and deliver results

  • Strategic thinking with strong business judgment and analytical skills, able to problem solve and manage projects as issues arise

  • Ability to influence executives and stakeholders by demonstrating mature intellectual and managerial leadership

  • Comfort in a dynamic and fast-moving work environment
