Our mission at Charles Schwab Investment Advisory (CSIA) is to provide the highest quality portfolio advisory services and research on investment managers to Charles Schwab clients and the advisors who serve them. CSIA is a subsidiary of The Charles Schwab Corporation and an affiliate of Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. CSIA is responsible for managing Schwab Intelligent Portfolios (SIP), Schwab Managed Portfolios (SMP) which are both diversified asset allocation portfolios comprised of either mutual funds or ETFs. Current assets under management are approximately $33 billion. CSIA also conducts asset allocation research and performs the manager research and evaluation of mutual funds, separate accounts, and ETFs for a variety of CS&Co products and services. This growing team of 30+ investment professionals has diverse backgrounds which encompass quantitative investment research, investment manager due diligence, and portfolio management and trading.
The Sr. Manager, Quantitative IMR will be working in the quantitative research group within Charles Schwab Investment Advisory, Inc. (CSIA) and will work closely with the Managing Director, Asset Allocation and Quantitative Research to manage CSIA's quantitative models registered with Schwab's Model Risk Management (MRM) on the ongoing basis. Per MRM requirements, CSIA has registered a variety of quantitative models with the MRM, including but not limited to, strategic and tactical asset allocation models, capital market expectation model, mutual fund ratings models, and tax loss harvesting and rebalancing model. This position will also support the portfolio management team for Schwab Intelligent Portfolios (SIP), Schwab Managed Portfolios (SMP), and performing the model registration, annual attestation, corrective action, performance monitoring responsibilities, and manage CSIA's overall relationship with MRM. The ideal candidate will be focused on quantitative research and/or risk management as a career path and will operate with substantial autonomy after a suitable training/orientation period. Over time, this role may also serve as a mentor to junior staff and will aid the team in continued growth. Within CSIA, there are many opportunities to participate in and be exposed to fundamental and technical analysis as well as due diligence and investment manager research on traditional mutual funds and alternative investment mutual funds and separately managed accounts, and ETFs. CSIA is constantly evolving and taking on new responsibilities and projects.
What you’ll do:
Working with Managing Director – Model Risk Manager, this Sr. Manager – Quantitative IMR is a Senior Model Risk Researcher and MRM relationship manager who will manage the MRM process for CSIA's variety of quantitative models, including but not limited to Capital Market Expectation Model, Strategic and tactical asset allocation models, and Mutual Fund Rating System (MFRS) models, and support Schwab Intelligent Portfolios (SIP), Schwab Managed Portfolios (SMP) – Mutual Fund and SMP – ETF.
What you have:
Bachelor’s degree required.
A graduate degree in Quantitative Finance, Econometrics, or a related field is highly desired. A CFA is a plus.
At least six years of experience in quantitative analysis or risk management in the investments field.
Solid writing and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with other business partners throughout Schwab.
Proficiency in Matlab and experience with SAS or other statistical analysis software a must.
