The Global Data Office (GDO) is responsible for the management and integration of data across Schwab. Our focus is on making data more accessible and available, enabling speed to insight, and ensuring sound governance, resulting in a robust data environment. Ultimately, we will increase the value of our data and better leverage it to create competitive advantage.

The GDO Data/Business Analyst will dive deep into Schwab’s big data environment to provide shared understanding about what data is available now and what will be required in the future to enable advanced analytics capabilities. Initially, the focus will be on supporting the data needs of Schwab’s Marketing organization.

What you’ll do:

  • Dive in and learn what data lives in the big data environment, and capture appropriate metadata and data lineage

  • Become the data SME on the marketing analytics big data repository, answering questions about the data and helping end users find what they need

  • Create robust documentation for the repository, leveraging enterprise data governance tools to capture metadata, technical & business glossaries, and data lineage

  • Generate reports and analyses on data quality and monitor the data health of the repository over time

  • Work with business users to understand analytical and reporting expectations

  • Develop user stories and acceptance criteria for Agile delivery teams

  • Partner with delivery teams to research data issues and test outcomes of new development

  • Use SQL to analyze data, identify data quality issues, and find new ways that the data can be used to drive business decisions

  • Document, articulate, and explain technical issues in simple, straightforward ways that can be understood by technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Engage with stakeholders at all levels and across a geographically diverse environment

  • Be a promoter of enterprise standards around data and data processes and a role model for a data driven culture

  • Evolve the role over time as the big data environment evolves and broadens in scope

What you have:

Must haves:

  • Insatiable curiosity about data, what it means, and how it can be used to add business value

  • Advanced SQL skills, with 4-7 years of experience analyzing complex data sets

  • Experience working on data solutions to support enterprise business users

  • Prior project work with data warehousing, business intelligence, and/or analytics

  • Experience creating business requirements, test cases/scripts, and data documentation

  • Exceptional critical thinking skills - quickly synthesize data, develop recommendations, and defend points of view

  • High degree of self-motivation, and a talent for working in an environment where rapidly changing priorities and multi-tasking are the norm

  • Ability to work effectively with limited information and ambiguous problem definitions

  • Strong written & verbal communications skills – presenting complex information both formally and informally is a key part of this role

  • Experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum, Kanban)

  • Proficiency with reporting & BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Business Objects, SSRS)

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering or similar technical degree or equivalent experience

What will make you stand out:

  • Experience working on data transformation/integration projects in a big data environment

  • Hands-on experience with big data technologies - Hadoop, Hive, HBase, Spark, etc.

  • Exposure to data governance tools – Collibra, IBM Information Governance Catalog (IGC), etc.

  • Experience as a business analyst, quality analyst/tester, or developer on data transformation or data integration projects

  • Marketing/digital analytics data experience

  • Experience with enterprise level data analysis and integration work

  • Data quality monitoring

  • Prior project activities with data integration on big data
