Schwab is one of the largest and fastest growing financial services firms in the country and as a result the expectations for the Finance organization at Schwab are rapidly expanding. Complying with complex regulations, supporting scalable growth, and providing insight focused analysis to support leadership decisions in a fast changing world places great pressure on Schwab’s financial systems to keep pace. That’s why we’re embarking on a critical multi-year initiative to transform our entire financial system architecture and business processes. We’re building out a new team to lead this complex and critical initiative. This transformation team will be responsible for designing and implementing a new target operating model for the Finance organization –ushering in an era of increased operational speed and efficiency; more accessible and reliable data; tighter governance to enforce usage and quality standards, greater focus on value-add analysis work and scenario planning capabilities, and reduced risk in an expanding regulatory environment. This team will partner closely with experts from the office of the Controller and Treasurer along with Corporate Development Planning and Strategy to deliver the full suite of capabilities across these domains. This team will also establish a centralized business analyst / product owner function responsible for documenting functional / technical specifications, test plans, and supporting change management across the Finance domain. This team will also drive process redesign strategies aimed at achieving the target operating model. Lastly, this team will partner closely with Technology to deliver a Cloud based system architecture that will be highly integrated and seek to optimize systems to support general ledger, reporting, and scenario planning capabilities.
We’re looking for a strong leader to act as Product Owner for the Financial and Regulatory Reporting domain.
What you’ll do:
This role is responsible for providing vision, requirements and guidance to Scrum development teams implementing financial software. You will also be responsible for prioritization of requirements to achieve the best ROI results across multiple product initiatives. We are looking for a candidate with deep experience in the Financial, Regulatory Reporting and Compliance domain and the ability to influence others, who is energized about the opportunity to deliver automation and solve complex problems. The Financial and Regulatory Product Owner role will implement a roadmap aimed at a new target operating model that delivers a more efficient and extendable system framework, enhanced data governance model and standardization, improved workflow and tool set to eliminate manual processes, and capabilities to meet current and future state requirements. The Financial and Regulatory Reporting Product Owner will require outstanding communications skills with the ability to establish and build trusting relationships with individuals at all levels of the firm. Molding different parts of the organization to successfully support the desired strategies and outcomes requires well developed influencing and collaboration skills. This is a leadership position that requires deep finance / accounting domain experience, a business / systems analysis discipline, knowledge of workflow design and data governance, and an ability to excel in an uncharted environment to drive alignment toward a shared vision.
Maximizes the value of Financial Reporting platforms and the work of the team
Works with Agile Coaches and Scrum Masters to achieve best results in delivering high business value iteratively and incrementally
Provides the vision that drives the product
Ensures the team understands the vision / customer needs by describing the requirements clearly and succinctly, at the right level of detail
Continuously steers the project by making numerous decisions around scope and priority; weighing business value and risk to prioritize work
Ensures the team has good user stories and acceptance criteria that drive product development
Reviews the delivered features and provides feature feedback to the team in a timely manner
Is an integrated part of the team (no separation of development team and Product Owner)
What you have:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Must have 10+ years of experience in the financial reporting, regulatory and compliance domains
3+ years of experience as a Product Owner for software development teams preferred
In depth understanding of Agile values, principles and the Scrum framework.
Ability to understand technical issues and relate them to business needs
Understand fundamentals of iterative & incremental development
Understand backlog grooming, tracking, burndown/burn-up charts, & velocity
Experience with Agile planning tools such as Jira is a plus
