The Schwab Equity Ratings Department is a quant team located in Chicago which primarily focuses on domestic and international equity models. The Software Development Engineer position is part of the Schwab Equity Ratings Department’s Operations Team. The team’s primary objective is to ensure reliable model executions and dependable research data. In order to ensure reliable execution and dependable data, the Software Development Engineer will assist the team in designing and developing new features, controls and reports.
What you’ll do:
Create intuitive research interfaces and tools supported by clear documentation. Occasionally investigate data discrepancies or new data sources that would require querying data from SQL, the web or other sources. A successful candidate will be highly proficient in financial databases, experienced in high level languages (such as R, MATLAB, or python), moderately proficient in SQL and has a passion for investment research. This position is based in our 150 S. Wacker Dr. Chicago office location.
What you have:
Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Finance, Financial Engineering, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Math or related quant field highly preferred. Master’s degree in same fields and/or a CFA are a plus.
Familiarity with systematic and quantitative equity research models and back-testing.
Experience with investment/financial data. Hands-on experience with financial analysis and database systems and software such as FactSet, Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters QA Direct (Market QA), CRSP, Clarifi, or Zacks.
Experience with security mapping issues across financial data vendors
SQL querying experience a plus and an understanding of normalized data schemas.
Experience with R packages for financial applications or building libraries of useful tools using any scripting language.
Familiarity with portfolio analysis using financial statistics, time-series analysis, and factor-based research.
Software development experience
Must be methodical, detail-oriented, and able to manage the development reliably
Positive attitude, enthusiasm, professionalism and strong work ethic with high level of integrity
Excellent communication, problem solving, and presentation skills to influence and build consensus among your team members and senior leadership
Must be able to effectively interact with IT professionals
