The Monitoring and Automation Services group is looking for a Senior level Monitoring Systems Engineer to help create monitoring solutions for the many enterprise-class systems and applications that exist within the company, thereby enabling support teams and business groups to improve the value/service we deliver to our customers.
What you’ll do:
Design and implement monitoring solutions for Windows and Linux based systems and applications spanning all of Schwab's enterprise information technology systems
Own the management of one or more monitoring tools including problem identification/resolution, performance analysis, configuration and change management, and documentation. Help provide forward-looking enhancements to enable these systems to operate more efficiently;
Document monitoring design and implementation processes (and delegate to others on the team)
Own the continual improvement of processes for customer service delivery or monitoring tool management
Work closely with monitoring, automation, system, and application architects to research, provide input into and implement monitoring solutions
Lead emergency efforts and audit requirements as they arise
Train other technicians on monitoring design and implementation, and monitoring system management as needed
Create reports and provide operational metrics on monitoring system health and performance
What you have:
• Expert understanding and 8+ years' experience with the Unix/Linux operating systems (RedHat Enterprise Linux preferred)
• Good understanding of the Windows Server operating system (2003 to 2012) with 5+ years' experience is required
• Fluent in, and 8+ years' experience in one or more of the following Linux scripting languages/tools: Korn, Bash, awk, sed, grep, ssh
• 5+ experience in one or more of the following Windows scripting languages: Batch and/or PowerShell
• Experience with enterprise level system management (thousands of systems spanning data centers) required;
• Able to systematically analyze and break-down systems into smaller components in order to better understand how it works
• Ability to effectively and professionally communicate complex ideas and concepts is required
• Strong ability to fully own, organize, and manage multiple projects at the same time is a plus
